Description

Fermín Aguayo, was an important artist in the early days of Abstract painting in Spain and formed part of the Portico group in Zaragoza. He moved to Paris in 1952, where he would spend the rest of his life, strengthening the Informalist direction of his abstract painting. In Castilian Landscape, from 1955, Aguayo revives the visual and emotional experiences of his childhood in the native village of Sotillo de la Ribera (in the province of Burgos) with broad, short and dynamic horizontal brushstrokes and dark, cold paint applied by spatula, with the predominance of greys, greens, siennas and dark browns over an ochre background.
