Description

Saint Joachim and Saint Anne, are two small paintings made by Goya in 1772 in oil on wall, together with other paintings, for the oratory of the palace of the Counts of Sobradiel in Zaragoza, now housing the College of Notaries. They were taken off the wall and transferred to canvas in 1921. In addition to these two images, acquired by Ibercaja in 1999, three more are now the property of the Museum of Zaragoza. They were located on both sides of the niche, which would have held a bust of the Ecce Homo (Christ crowned with thorns), and were executed with loose brushstrokes using the impasto technique and bright colours in the Rococo style, learnt from Giaquinto and Bayeu.
