Artistic analysis
This genre scene depicts a young woman leaning out of a balcony overlooking a natural landscape; she is surrounded by three young men who are trying to woo her. This scene may bring to mind some of Goya’s works, as this Madrid-born painter was always influenced by the tradition of Velázquez and Goya, as well as having produced a large number of paintings inspired by literary works, specifically those of Cervantes.
