Artistic analysis
This painter began his artistic training in his father’s studio and soon went on to study at the Special School of Painting in Madrid. His work is clearly influenced by Goya’s themes and depictions of traditional Madrid. He generally produced genre paintings, as in this case, which depicts a religious procession setting out along the beach, only to be thwarted by bad weather. In the foreground, an altar boy is rolling on the ground, knocked over by the wind.
