Artistic analysis
Standing apart from the herd, atop a small hill, is the herdsman, who is responsible for managing and supervising the livestock. He wears a red bandana on his head, covered by a blue cap. He is dressed in a red jacket draped over his left shoulder, blue breeches and knee-high boots, and carries a goad in his right hand. Beside him, a farm labourer is sitting on the ground. Beneath the rock, a herdsman tends to a herd of cattle, which the foreman watches from above. In the background, we see a bluish hill, the sky and yellowish clouds.
