Artistic analysis
This baroque piece depicts the Ecce Homo, according to the Gospel of St. John, Pilate utters the phrase “behold the man”, hence the title of the painting. Christ appears crowned with thorns, holding a reed, his hands bound, and half-naked, covered only by a tunic. To his right stands an executioner, that is, the man who carried out the executions of the condemned.
