The nude female form is a recurring theme in Condoy’s work. Reclining Woman is formally linked to The Bather, though it is somewhat more advanced, displaying a certain Cubist nuance. It serves as a bridge between the two strands of his work: Mediterraneanism and the influence of African art. For this reason, and because of her unusual pose, it is an important work within his artistic oeuvre.
