Artistic analysis

Manuel Domínguez Sánchez was a spanish painter and illustrator. His work evolved from a late-romantic purism inspired by the nazarene school to a more decorative style in his later years. A painter of historical canvases, he also produced decorative series during his career. In this case, he has painted a mythological scene, a sketch for a mural decoration. The sketchy nature of the piece makes it impossible to determine the exact subject matter, but we can identify a series of figures seated on a white cloud. We may therefore be looking at a depiction of the gods of Olympus or other figures from greco-roman mythology.
