Artistic analysis
This sculpture is by Baltasar Lobo, one of the most important Spanish sculptors of the 20th century and a prominent member of the so called School of Paris. In the French capital, he struck up a friendship with Pablo Picasso, from whom he drew his interest in simplifying forms and his fondness for curvilinear volumes. In this work, the artist combines the boldness of the figure’s volumes with great perfection in the modeling of the forms. Furthermore, a recurring iconography in his artistic career, “the female nude” is already evident here.
