This is a bullfighting scene depicting the ‘suerte de varas’ phase, in which the picador, mounted on horseback and distinguished by the light colours of his attire, is shown driving his lance into the bull. To the right of the canvas, another figure holds a muleta, assisting in the task of killing the animal and thus helping to bring the spectacle to a close. The entire scene unfolds against an imaginary landscape background that helps to create a sense of drama in the composition.
