The title of this work refers to the Vicalvarada, also known as the Revolution of 1854. The painting depicts a group of figures riding on horseback across a completely barren plain. The horses lend great dynamism to the painting, an effect also achieved by the sketchy brushstrokes. Note the restraint of the colour palette, which features only that yellowish tone for the sky and ground and the brown of the horses.
