Artistic analysis
This piece is a sketch for a public sculpture in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria depicting the Spanish novelist and politician Benito Pérez Galdós. The final work is one of his portraits in which the body is rendered as a uniform, abstract mass, creating an imposing volume, while incorporating realistic features in the face. However, since this is a sketch, Pérez Galdós’s face is not fully developed.
