This is the bronze sketch that Pablo Serrano created for the “Monument to the Teruel Farmwoman”, which Ibercaja donated to the city of Teruel to mark the centennial of the savings bank’s arrival in the city. The imposing female figure, composed of geometric blocks in chiaroscuro, with an expressionist face and large, sturdy hands, is accompanied by a series of farming implements and tools at the base of the statue, which are either carried or held by her hands—a touch that humanizes these symbolic elements and lends them realism. It stands as a tribute to the women farmers of Aragon, possibly in memory of the sculptor’s childhood, as he spent his early years in the Teruel village of Crivillén.
