This delicate drawing depicts a distinctive feature of Madrid’s Retiro Park: the Egyptian Fountain. Situated on the southern side of the Retiro pond, this fountain is not merely an ornament; it formed part of an ambitious project to renovate the park in 1815. As we can see in the piece, the fountain is adorned with two sphinxes and a canopic jar at its base. We can even see, at the top of the structure, the sculpture of the god Osiris, which disappeared in 1922.
