Artistic analysis
This is a copy of the sketch for engraving Nº 11 from Goya’s The Disasters of War series. This piece depicts violence against women, a section of the population that suffered greatly during the war. Of particular note are the two figures of french soldiers standing and inflicting this violence on completely defenceless women. Furthermore, these soldiers are acting in the dark, in what appears to be under a bridge, where no one can see them.
