This painting is part of a series in which he depicted the Four Holy Fathers of the Latin Church: Saint Ambrose, Saint Gregory the Great, Saint Jerome, and Saint Augustine. All of them are the same size. They are characterized by the use of golden and warm tones.
We see an elderly Saint Augustine, seated, wearing an episcopal miter and covered by a pluvial, which glows in warm tones, contrasting with the dark background. The saint, in a prayerful pose, looks up to heaven with one hand open, surrendering himself to God, while writing in his book with the other.
